The second part was completed but not released for a decade after Eisenstein's death and a change of heart in the USSR government toward his work; the third part was only in its earliest stage of filming when shooting was stopped altogether.

‘Finding Fanon’ is the first part in a series of works by artists Larry Achiampong and David Blandy; inspired by the lost plays of Frantz Fanon, (1925-1961) a politically radical humanist whose practice dealt with the psychopathology of colonisation and the social and cultural consequences of decolonisation. In the film, the two artists negotiate Fanon’s ideas, examining the politics of race, racism and the post-colonial, and how these societal issues affect their relationship. Their conflict is played out through a script that melds found texts and personal testimony, transposing their drama to a junkyard houseboat at an unspecified time in the future. Navigating the past, present and future, Achiampong and Blandy question the promise of globalisation, recognising its impact on their own heritage.

Druhý film ostrovní trilogie je v Bergmanově filmovém díle jedním z mála politicky angažovaných snímků, navzdory tomu, že se tvůrce tomuto označení bránil v sebeironickém zlehčení: Politicky nezaujímám vůbec žádné stanovisko. Kdyby existovala strana bázlivců, tak bych do ní vstoupil. Politikum v pochmurné, ostře protiválečné vizi se však nevytratilo ani v neurčitosti faktografie. Ačkoli se děj filmu odehrává v nejmenované zemi, v průběhu fiktivní války, přesto z něj vystupuje naprosto reálná, naturalisticky zobrazená brutalita soudobé válečné agrese. Manželská dvojice profesionálních hudebníků - Jan a Eva (opět v podání tehdejší bergmanovské stálice interpretů Ullmannové a von Sydowa) jí čelí únikem z pevniny na ostrov, který je postupně okupovaný nepřátelskou armádou.
