Proto se spojí s Cruchotovu dcerou Nicole a vymyslí plán jak vznikající lásku překazit. Nejenže se však Nicole s Josefou spřátelí, ale navíc se všechny Gerberovy pláni obracejí proti němu.

Na konci září 1941, sovětská dělostřelecká jednotka v obléhaném Leningradu si uvědomuje, že brzy vypálí poslední výstrel a po té bude obrana města zničena. Malá skupinka odvážných vojáku přiváží velkou zásobu střelného prachu skrz nepřátelskou linii do Leningradu.
